Lentoyhtiöt keräävät tällä hetkellä tarvittavat tiedot koneellisesti luettavasta passista lähtöselvityksen yhteydessä.

Osoitetiedot USA:ssa

Lentoyhtiöt ovat velvollisia ilmoittamaan viranomaisille myös matkustajien osoitetiedot USA:ssa. Tiedot kerätään viimeistään lähtöselvityksessä.

Jotta lähtöselvitys sujuisi mahdollisimman nopeasti suosittelemme, että täytätte osoitetiedot etukäteen lentoyhtiöiden lomakkeille, jotka löytyvät tämän sivun alaosasta. Täytetty lomake on oltava mukana lähtöselvityksessä.

Sähköinen matkustuslupa 72 tuntia ennen matkaa

Yhdysvaltoihin saapuvilta matkustajilta vaaditaan 12.1.2009 alkaen sähköinen matkustuslupa, ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization). ESTA-lomake tulee aikanaan korvaamaan vanhan I-94W lomakkeen, jonka matkustajat ovat täyttäneet ennen matkaansa Yhdysvaltoihin, viimeistään menolennolla. Kyseinen lomake riittää vielä tällä hetkellä ja se täytetään edelleen niiden Yhdysvaltoihin suuntautuvien matkojen osalta, jotka alkavat viimeistään 11.1.2009.

Matkustajan tulee tehdä ESTA-anomus Internetin kautta viimeistään 72 tuntia ennen matkaansa, lomake löytyy osoitteesta https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov. Sähköistä lomaketta voi halutessaan käyttää jo elokuun 2008 alusta lähtien. Otathan huomioon, että lomakkeen täyttöohjeet sekä anomus ovat englanninkielisiä. Suomenkielinen versio anomuksesta on saatavilla 15.10.2008 alkaen.

ESTA on voimassa 2 vuotta, PAITSI jos passin numero, henkilön nimi tai jokin muu tähdellinen tieto muuttuu.

Täytettyäsi lupa-anomuksen saat jonkin ajan kuluttua sähköpostitse vahvistuksen hakemuksesi käsittelystä ja hyväksymisestä sekä hakemusnumeron. Muistathan, että ilman ESTA-lupaa Yhdysvaltoihin matkustaminen on mahdotonta 12.1.2009 alkaen.   

Yhdysvallat: ESTA-matkustuslupa maksulliseksi 8.9.2010 alkaen
Yhdysvaltain tulli- ja rajavalvontaviranomaiset (U.S. Customs and Border Protection CBP) on ilmoittanut, että Yhdysvaltoihin matkustettaessa pakollinen sähköinen matkustuslupa - ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) - tulee maksulliseksi. Maksun periminen alkaa 8.9.2010 ja sen jälkeen tehdyistä ESTA-hakemuksista. 

Maksun suuruus on yhteensä USD 14. Summasta neljä dollaria menee CBP:lle ja kymmenen ohjataan matkailun edistämisen rahoitukseen. 

Maksu peritään verkossa luottokorttimaksuna hakemuksen tekemisen yhteydessä ja hakemus otetaaan käsittelyyn vasta kun maksu on maksettu.  

Maksu koskee kaikkia VWP (Visa Waiver Program) -viisumivapausmaiden kansalaisia eli myös suomalaisia. Muut viisumivapauden piirissä olevat maat löytyvät tästä linkistä: http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/without/without_1990.html#countries

Airlines collect necessary information from the machine-readable passports at check-in at the moment.

Address in USA

Airlines must also report passengers' address information to the Department of Homeland Security. Address information is collected at the latest at check-in. To minimize your check-in time, we highly recommend you have your first night address information filled in advance to specific forms provided by airlines. Forms of some airlines can also be found at the bottom of this page.

72 hours in advance registration

The latest measure to strengthen American security is that from the beginning of year 2009 all passengers travelling to the United States from countries whose citizens do not need visas must register online with the US government at least 72 hours before departure. The new rule requires 72 hours in advance registration but will be valid for multiple entries over a two-year period. The rule will only apply to citizens of the 27 visa-waiver programme countries, including Finland. Passengers will be able to register from August 2008 on and it will become mandatory in January 2009. Registration will be possible through travel agents, airline websites or through a special US government website.

As of 12 January 2009 online registration is mandatory when traveling to the US.

Starting 12 January 2009 all passengers travelling to the US are required to fill in an online travel authorization application ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization). The ESTA form will replace the previously used I-94W form which passengers have been filling in before their trip to the US, during the flight over at the latest. At the moment the mentioned Visa Waiver form is still sufficient and valid, and is to be filled in regarding trips to the US departing before or on 11 January 2009.

A passenger is required to fill in the ESTA application form online at least 72 hours before departure, the form can be found at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov. The online form is useable already as of the beginning of August 2008. Please keep in mind that both the form and the instructions are in English. A Finnish version will be available as of 15 October 2008.

ESTA is valid over a two year period, EXCEPT if passport number, name or some other important information changes.

Some time after you have filled in the ESTA form online a receipt and notice of approval as well as application number will be sent to you by email. Please remember that traveling to the US without the ESTA authorization will be impossible as of 12 January 2009.

According to the Department of Homeland Security the passenger's entry to USA can be declined unless all the information is available. 

The United States: ESTA travel authorization subject to a fee starting from September 8, 2010  

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) authorities have announced the mandatory travel authorization required from passengers travelling to the United States – ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) – to become subject to a fee. The fee is to be charged as of September 8, 2010 and applies to all ESTA applications submitted after that date.

The total fee is USD 14, four dollars of which are allocated to the CBP and ten to funding that supports the promotion of tourism.

The fee is charged online as a credit card payment in connection to submitting an application. Applications are not processed before the fee has been paid.
